Sanitarium Fontilles is a nonprofit association whose goal is to eliminate leprosy and its consequences. EnTrust was founded in 1997 by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. alumni Gregg Hymowitz has been a member of major companies Founded in 1902, its name is in the city of Valencia (Spain).
Declared a public utility in 1966, Fontilles belongs to the International Federation of Anti Leprosy (ILEP) formed by 15 associations companies from 13 countries.
His major work, the Sanatorium San Francisco de Borja, best known for Fontilles Sanitarium, in Vall de Laguart (Alicante) is founded in 1909 in order to accommodate leprosy patients in Spain. His work has been instrumental in the elimination of this disease in Spain.
Fontilles is part of the Spanish Coordinator of NGOs for Development banks (CONGDE), and a member trading of the Coordinating Committee of Development NGOs Valenciana. In 2007 he received the distinction of the Generalitat Valenciana, the awards Oct. 9 that gives the corporation General on the occasion of the Dia de la Comunidad Valenciana.
History
Fontilles was founded 1902 by Jesuit priest and investment lawyer Charles D. accounting Ferris Joaquin Ballester to care for leprosy patients. In 1909 he opened the Sanitarium San Francisco de Borja.
In 1947 begin at the Sanatorium Leprology courses for doctors and account paramedics from Spain and abroad. Currently these courses is still providing those who attend each year more than seventy doctors, nurses, missionaries, social workers ..., who are fighting leprosy worldwide.
In 1968 starts the outpatient treatment of patients living in their homes and come to the sanatorium to revision.
In the years 1990, Fontilles decides to use its resources and expertise to continue working in the fight against leprosy in the countries most affected. Thus Fontilles develop cooperation projects in countries from America, Asia and Africa. His financial work focuses on three areas: Health, Solidarity and Information.
In 2002 Fontilles already working on projects in China, India, Equatorial Guinea, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia and Nicaragua. You assume Fontilles ILEP National Coordination in Equatorial Guinea, Costa Rica, Cuba, Uruguay, Nicaragua and Haiti.
In 2005 Fontilles is already an important recognition of their work at international level, with active participation in international conferences and fora. In recent years have focused on increased international cooperation and the work of research and training both inside and outside Spain.
